Tonight as we sat on our deck and ate dinner, we all felt grateful to live in such a beautiful place. Jeff and I made the decision over 20 years ago to move to Washington from West Virginia. It was one the BEST decisions we ever made. We love all that it has to offer and when it comes to summers here well, it is just ...TRULY BREATH TAKING! So tonight it was perfect, that a dear friend of mine sent me this cute story about the very same subject! Thank you!
"A man in Topeka , Kansas decided to write a book about Churches around
the country. He started by flying to New York and started working west
from there.
Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and making
notes. He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was
intrigued with a sign, which read "Calls: $10,000 a minute."
Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone and the sign. The
pastor answered that this golden phone was, in fact, a direct line to
heaven and if he paid the price he could talk directly to God.
The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. As he continued
to visit churches in Chicago , Dallas , St. Louis , Milwaukee , and
around the United States , he found more phones, with the same sign,
and the same answer from each pastor.
Finally, he arrived in Seattle . Upon entering a cathedral he saw the
usual golden telephone but THIS time, the sign read "Calls: .35 cents."
Fascinated, he asked to talk to the pastor, but as it happened the
bishop was available. "Bishop Thomas, I have been in cities all across
the country and in each church I have found this golden telephone and
have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to
God, but in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign
reads only 35 cents a call. Why?
The priest, smiling benignly, replied : "Son, you're in Seattle ,
Washington now, home of Mount Rainier, Puget Sound , the Olympic
Peninsula , Starbucks, smoked salmon and the most beautiful nature this
side of heaven. You're in God's Country - It's a local call."

"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul." ~John Muir
