Acts of service can have far-reaching effects!

I had read this story years ago, and it always has touched me. Maybe because I was a Mother myself many times in situations where I wish I could have explained my actions. Yet, I too have fallen guilty of judging too quickly…well knowing that we don’t know the whole picture. Making a quick judgment is so easy, but like this story…things may not always be what they seem.

I hope you enjoy it.
Good night dear friends!

Serving Others

Stranded in an airport because of bad weather, a young mother and her two-year-old daughter had been waiting in long lines for hours trying to get a flight home. The child was tired and fussy, but the mother, who was pregnant and at risk of miscarriage, did not pick her up. A doctor had advised the mother to avoid lifting the two-year-old unless absolutely necessary. The woman overheard disapproving comments from people around her as she used her foot to slide her crying daughter along in the line. Nobody offered to help. But then, the woman later recalled, “someone came towards us and with a kindly smile said, ‘Is there something I could do to help you?’ With a grateful sigh I accepted his offer. He lifted my sobbing little daughter from the cold floor and lovingly held her to him while he patted her gently on the back. He asked if she could chew a piece of gum. When she was settled down, he carried her with him and said something kindly to the others in the line ahead of me, about how I needed their help. They seemed to agree and then he went up to the ticket counter [at the front of the line] and made arrangements with the clerk for me to be put on a flight leaving shortly. He walked with us to a bench, where we chatted a moment, until he was assured that I would be fine. He went on his way. About a week later I saw a picture of Apostle Spencer W. Kimball and recognized him as the stranger in the airport.”

Later at the end of the story Spencer W. Kimball got a letter from a young man. Here is just a part of his letter to him…

… a story was told of a loving service which you performed some 21 years ago in the Chicago airport. The story told of how you met a young pregnant mother with a young screaming child in … a [condition of] distress waiting in a long line for her tickets. She was threatening miscarriage and therefore couldn’t lift her child to comfort her. She had experienced four previous miscarriages which gave added reason for the doctor’s orders not to bend or lift.
“… You comforted the crying child, and explained the dilemma to the other passengers in line. This act of love took the strain and tension off of my mother. I was born a few months later in Flint, Michigan.
“I just want to thank you for your love. Thank you for your example!”

We are going to need one more stocking!

I have to admit that some of the greatest Christmas memories I have ever had, was when I was pregnant. I guess it is just that I seem to relate (in a small way) what Mary must have gone through. How she did what did, under those circumstances is amazing to me. And I can’t imagine all the things that must have gone through her mind when she found out that she was to be the Mother of the Christ child. I love in the scriptures when it says in Luke 2 : 19 …’But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.’

As a parent on many occasions and even before my kids were born, I prayed that their life would turn out much better and safer than mine. I prayed to know how to raise them and understand them. I prayed for the strength and courage to make the right choices myself, so that they could look to me for help and an example. That hasn’t always been the case but I really do try. Motherhood is a huge responsibility but looking back over those almost 30 years, I have to say that I wouldn’t change anything because hard as it was….I have never experience such great joy, as when I held my kids in my arms. What incredible little people they were …even way back then.

So when we received this photo of our sweet daughter in law, pregnant with our first grandson…it made my heart happy all over again. How grateful I am that my Heavenly Father has let me live here on the earth long enough to meet and get to share life with these wonderful grandchildren. We are soooooooo excited for this new little guy to come be part of our family, we can hardly wait!!!

A dear friend of mine came to my house the other day with her 3 cute little girls. They mentioned how many stockings there were on the mantle and asked who they were all for. When I said my family, the one little girl said “ wow, you have a lot of family”, I felt like crying ….yes I have a lot of family,  in other words you could say that I am rich, very rich because of my many family and friends, it doesn’t get any better than this! So now I need to make one more stocking for our little Hezekiah!

Good night dear friends!

Only a $10.00 depression!

When I was pregnant with Amy, the Dr told me that he thought she was so big, that maybe we got the dates wrong. He said you might be seeing this baby in April and so being a first time Mom to be, I believed him. Well, it is hard to just wait for a baby to come, you try to keep busy and not think of it, but those last weeks are unbelievable to say the least.

April came and left, and May came and each week when I went for my check up the Doctor would tell me things like, well she isn't dropping, she isn't showing any signs of getting ready and so on and so forth. I was  devastated. What about this April baby I was suppose to have? After each Doctor appointment I would be so discourage that I would stop by the fabric or craft store to buy some supplies, to make something else for the baby's room which just was a project to keep my mind and hands busy. When I would call Jeff and tell him the bad news about having to wait longer, he would always say "How much did  your depression cost us today?" "Was it a $5.00 depression or a $10.00 depression?" * Just a side note here, I am not making light of real depression, I have been there and it isn't funny at all, this is just the word we used in this situation *

I sorta felt like calling Jeff today and saying well I had a $17.00 depression after going to the Doctor. Actually I really liked my new Doctor and she had great insight and wisdom. She seemed to think the thing that I was worried about... isn't going to be a problem, but took tests and we will have the results back in a few days. Whew, at least I cleared that hurdle today, now I have to clear and handle the root canal re-do tomorrow. This Doctor also told me that I need to get my colonoscopy and have my thyroid checked by a specialist, just to be safe and so I guess I have a few more hurdles to clear in the future. Well, I am just grateful to  have another day to even have hurdles to clear. Life seems to be all about the journey and things that happen to us. Some of our greatest lessons, are also some of the hardest.

No news but good news!

As I mentioned Jeff and I are at a family reunion. Last night we stayed at a beautiful home up in the mountains, it was wonderful but we had no inter-net access for me to write my blog, and that is why yesterday you didn't hear from me at all. Not that I think the whole world waits by their computers ...to see what Lynn Woodard has to say, each day. But I myself miss sharing some of my thoughts and life with you, and I need the motivational thoughts probably more than any of you do. So I was sorry that I couldn't write last night.
Well, it is late and I need to get to bed. We are visiting more family tomorrow. Some of the family had to leave tonight, it was hard to say good-bye. We all really had a great time and we feel blessed we could come and spend this time together.
Another reason that I felt bad for not being able to write last night is because I have some REALLY GOOD NEWS TO SHARE WITH YOU!!! Jeff and I are going to be grandparents again!!! Our son Brad and his wife Krystal are expecting and we just couldn't be more excited! I am telling you that these grand babies...are the best!!!
So even though I can't write much, I could hardly wait to share my GOOD NEWS with you. Good night dear friends and thank you for always being there!!!
