Hardships

I just found this poster and quote below.
I have to put this quote on my mirror sometime. This poster also reminds me of how good my life is, and that many have it much worse. So it helps me redirect my self pity thoughts. I do believe it though, some of the hardest trials in life is what makes us who we need to be.
Today was a tough day, for the last couple of days I have been in a lot of pain with my back. Jeff and I took a different route on our walking the other night and the way home had a bit of an incline ( not much to most NORMAL people ) but it was more than I am used to. I sorta knew by the time we got home that I might be in trouble. I really hurt the next day and even threw up from the pain. Darn it... I hate when one little things throws me off like that. I have been struggling since that IME appointment I had with the insurance, and that chiropractor was so rough on me. I am so frustrated!!!
Had to get to the Physical Therapist today and the Doctor too... for some pain patches ( I have never tried them, hope they work ) to get the pain under control. I came home after those appointments and just went to bed. What a day... definitely Bigger Than Me. But once again I will look at this poster and remember to keep it all in perspective. Baby steps, over and over again!
Good night dear friends!

Always be nicer than you feel!

Today was a BIGGER THAN ME DAY TODAY!  I started out getting a few things done before I headed off to Physical Therapy. It felt so good to get adjusted and things on my back and neck lined up. I missed one day last week, and so it was a pretty painful weekend.  I was grateful to be there today.
After that appointment, I had to go to a appointment for the Insurance company. I forgot what the appointment was called... but basically you have to see two Doctors that my Insurance Company picks out and they have to exam me and see if I am being honest on my PIP Claims that I have had from my car accidents. I realize that there are many people who try to cheat the system but... I am not one of them! Of course they have no way of knowing that.  But I tried to go in with an open mind. Both Doctors were nice, there wasn't any connection making at all. Just sorta ... " just answer the question" type things. Frustrated me that they didn't look over the notes from the people who are treating me since the accidents.
The last part was physical exams, some things I just couldn't do but when it came time for the Chiropractor to check me, then he was much rougher than I expected and especially with my neck. I mentioned at one point that I should have gotten my adjustment after this appointment. The Chiropractor just said " Oh, we aren't going to do anything that would cause you any problems"
How wrong he was, because he messed with my neck so much ... I was hurting and light headed when I got out of there. I know to many people that I look strong and that you would never know I had back or neck issues, but you would have thought that they after having read the Doctor's notes that they would have been a bit easier on me. How I wish things like this didn't hurt my neck and back but... they do and they did!
When I came home, I got ice on my neck, took some Advil and headed to bed for an hour....Jeff's ORDER...to do that. I was discouraged that I had just been adjusted and then felt like everything was undone after the 2nd appointment. I was frustrated that I am not as tough as most people, but I am not...or at least not right now. As Jeff and I was talking, I realized that almost everything I said was negative in some way, Jeff recognized that I was really hurting,, and that is when he sent me to bed. I am so glad he did...that helped a lot. Still sore tonight, and so I think I will do the same ICE and heat on it.
So the old saying " Always be nicer than you feel " directly applied to me today.
Sorta wished I would have seen this sign (BELOW) this morning, and I could have just gone right back to bed!  But there is always something to be grateful for and so I am grateful for the chance to have a great PT and a Massage Therapist who truly help me overcome my pain. I am grateful to have insurance ( even though it can be a pain at times ), I know there are many out there who don't have it or can't afford it...so I am grateful for that...not for the crazy system that comes with it, but for the chance to have it. Grateful that I have a wonderful family who supports me on my BIGGER THAN ME DAYS. So there is a lot to be grateful for. But it is time to go to bed. Yes, I hope tomorrow is a  better day! Good night dear friends!
Today has been canceled. It would be nice to have one day just to relax and do nothing lol

Bigger Than Me Day!

Well, I was totally shocked today when I woke up SCARED! Then came the tears...it took me a minute to try to understand what these feelings were and why they hit me so hard? A couple of things came to mind, my Doctor of the past 6 years is moving....I knew that and thought I had already wrapped my head around it; but then I started thinking that means we will have to get a new Doctor for all of our family, not just me. However, I am the hardest one to get one for because of being a Cancer Survivor and especially because I didn't treat it traditionally! Now I know DEEP DOWN in my heart that I will find the right one for me, but it just hit me that he is leaving and I have to start over. Gaining that type of trust in a Doctor...is no easy thing for me!
The second thing that I realized is....I have my yearly Cancer Check Up on Friday, and that always throws a bit of fear into my life. I know it is normal but I don't like feeling this way. To top that off, Jeff will be out of town that day and won't be able to go with me. They don't let him go in with me any more ( new office policy) but it is nice to know that my Knight is outside waiting for me. I have many dear friends that have offered to go..so I will be fine.
Two dear friends came by to visit  me yesterday, what a blessing to have such wonderful Friends! They remembered that I was going in for my Check Up on Friday, and so they brought me a book it is called HOWEVER LONG & HARD THE ROAD by Jeffrey R. Holland. I decided after finally pulling myself together this morning, to start readying it and what a good idea that was!
I will only share a couple of things with you that I have read so far but they were pretty profound to me today!
It begins by talking about all the terrible things you hear in the news each day and how that can make one anxious. Then he quoted F. Scott Fitzgerald when he said " TROUBLE HAS NO NECESSARY CONNECTION WITH DISCOURAGEMENT- DISCOURAGEMENT HAS A GERM OF ITS OWN, AS DIFFERENT FROM TROUBLE AS ARTHRITIS IS DIFFERENT FROM A STIFF JOINT."
He goes on to say that the "germ" of discouragement is not in trouble, but in us. It's frequently a small germ, hardly worth going to the doctor for, but it will work and it will grow and it will spread. In fact, it can become almost a habit, a way of living and thinking, and there the greatest damage is done. As with any other germ, a little preventive medicine out to be practiced in terms of those things that get us down.
" The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining."  ~ John F. Kennedy The Boy Scout Motto is " Be Prepared".
Of course there are some disappointments that we can not totally be prepared for, but he mentions that we need to face down those disappointments and see what it is that we are to learn from them, and then keep going.  He mentions many people in the scriptures that had tons of disappointments but they turned them into successes, with the Lord's help of course...such as Moses, Noah and many others. They had hard things that they had to overcome and many disappointments. In the book of Joshua 3:5, Joshua tells the tribe of Israel as they faced one of their most difficult trials, " Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you."
Being prepared each day to see what the Lord will make of you is exciting, if we would just believe and not be so fearful. Trust in Him.
He suggest 5things in the book to be prepared... I know these and that is exactly what I try to do in situations like this...
Pray...really pour out my soul to God
Study the scriptures... learn from others who have been there or through something worse, and still they make it.
Serve Others.. .I have a strong conviction of this. I know when I am feeling down with myself. that I can change my whole mind set, when I forget myself and Serve someone else
Be Patient...yes, things don't always happen when or how I want them too, when I am patient the reward is seeing exactly what it is the Lord wants me to do or learn.
Have faith...I know that miracles happen every day. I know that the impossible becomes possible! I just need to have more faith! Don't let the What Ifs robe us of our Faith!
Anyway, other wonderful things happened today when I decided to cancel my Pity Party early and go out. I talked to one of my sweet nieces and one of my daughters today too, they offered a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on, what a blessing that was. Then I went to lunch with a new friend, that was so fun. What an amazing lady she is! After dinner I went to Weight Watchers and sat with my friend ( who I met there a year ago ) and we talked about what did and did not work for us this year ( for our diet that is )! She has reached Life Time Membership too, and has been a great inspiration to me. So you see, I have much to be grateful for, much to be thankful for and much to be happy about..so that is what I need to remember on those Bigger Than Me Days! Good night dear friends!

Family Christmas Dinner!

I think I am just going to share the photos from my Family Christmas Dinner I had, while in Utah with my family. Today was a Bigger Than Me Day so I don't have a ton of positive thoughts running through my head, to be honest with you.
This morning right after my adjustment from the chiropractor...(which I badly needed after the trip) and then a massage...(which I also needed badly...) someone backed into my brand new car and did damage. Not to mention made my neck start hurting again. So I really shouldn't write when I am hurting... I am not bad, it wasn't a serious accident at all but still...I don't want to hurt any more, and my I had only driven my car about 3 times!
Anyway, let's just talk about the dinner...

We were able to get all 5 of us kids and most of our spouses together. Plus, my cousin and his wife came too. (He is on the left of me.) My youngest brother and sister-in-law brought 2 of their kids, so they and Aunt Lynn got to hang out together. I really feel like they are my grandchildren. These two kids were born after my Mom passed away so ...I have tried hard to fill the void that she left. That is tough to do, because she was an amazing grandmother.

It was fun seeing everyone and afterwards we did a White Elephant Gift Exchange, that was a lot of fun. So the food was catered in and wonderful, the Christmas music was playing  in the air and it was snowing outside...what a wonderful night. I am grateful that they sent me a ticket to come for the Christmas festivities. I felt blessed to be there. It truly was a great Christmas gift this year!
Of course any time Shirley and I are together...it is just like Christmas!
Christmas Fulfillment

This Christmas,
may you have the fulfillment
of seeing around you
the people you love the most.
May you have the satisfaction
of giving the best gift,
special memories that will last forever.
This Christmas,
may you feel peaceful and contented,
knowing what Christmas means to you
and celebrating it your way.

Bigger Than Me Day!

For the last few days I have been struggling with a number of things. None that are really critical...yet... they seem like they are. My perspective is narrowed and it seems like everything is hurting my heart lately. I cry at the drop of a hat. (whatever that expression means?) I am homesick for a home that doesn't even exist any more, and only homesick for that home at Christmas time; which seemed happier and safe during the holidays. I am missing my family and friends. I am worried about finances, about my kids, and struggles that they are having. Is any of this new? Not really, just on my mind more lately.
Yes, I have had a few Bigger Than Me Days lately. It really isn't like me but I am praying hard to find the basis of this pain in my heart. Could it be that my Mom passed away at this very time of the year? Is it because my family is more spread out? Is it because we have to make some big purchases soon? It really doesn't matter, everything could be handled if I had my head in the right place. I just sorta honored the Bigger Than Me Day today but realized tonight... I need to work hard to get out of this place. I have tons to be thankful for, incredible friends and family to be thankful for, a job that I LOVE and a FAITH to remind me of where to go in times of need. So I am going to bed and EXPECT it to be a much better day!
Good night dear friends!

Confidence… or the Lack of ?

Warning, this post is a Bigger Than Me Day!

Lately I have been struggling, and lacking in the confidence department. I am not sure why exactly?  Maybe because I have been in more pain lately. Pain is hard on the soul and everything else. It is hard to get excited about things when you don’t feel good, and it even makes me grumpy with the family…which is unusual, so I definitely have to get to the bottom of it soon.
Also having this much pain doesn’t exactly make me feel very creative, and normally  I have soooo many ideas running through my head that I can hardly wait to get up in the morning and start on them. So…I really have to get my body back in order, so my mind and spirit will follow! As I read these quotes I thought how true…

"If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life."  ~ Unknown Author…. (Some times the world is a tough place to live, so it is vital that you believe in yourself first!)

“As is our confidence, so is our capacity.”  ~William Hazlitt ….( So true, if we believe in ourselves and our abilities, anything is possible! )

"Confidence doesn't come out of nowhere.
It's a result of something... hours and days and weeks and years of constant work and dedication."   ~Roger Staubach … ( I agree, the more I work and spend time at something, the better I get! )

“With confidence, you have won even before you have started."    ~Marcus Garvey … ( This is definitely a POSITIVE quote, having confidence helps you win the game of life! )

So now that I know what I should do… I just need to go do it!

Just like my daughter and her friends at college, doing synchronized swimming at the park…now that take confidence in ones self and self esteem. I need to have more pictures of myself just being silly and playing. I don’t really play very well. Sometimes I am probably too serious with life!

Well, thanks for believing in me… even on the days that I don’t  believe in myself!  Good night dear friends!
