What a great weekend!

This weekend I spent time with my daughter Amy at a meeting called Time Out For Women. It was a great meeting and one... that was a great reminder of how important it is, to love yourself and to remember how important you are.
It was mostly about standing as a Witness of God in all things and in all things. Reminding us to be Living Proof every day that we are Daughters of God.

And I think the quote that I liked the most today was..."IF YOU WERE ARRESTED FOR BEING A CHRISTIAN, WOULD THEY HAVE ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO CONVICT YOU?
It was a great weekend and spiritually uplifting!
So grateful for this opportunity this weekend, we only wish Lauren and Krystal  could have been there with us!!!
Good Night dear friend!

P.S. I got to see a dear friend of mine. It had been 6 years or more years since we had seen each other. She and I were companions on our Mission 35 years ago! Where has the time gone?

Do we ever say these questions to ourselves?

Well, I just arrived home today...feels good to be back. I started right away emptying my suitcases, cleaning out the fridge, working in the garbage, laundry and then Jeff and I went and got groceries then watered the flowers...yes...I am tired...so it must me I am home!
I was thrilled to read Jason Wrights new column this week. I think he is an incredible writer and what he talked about today was certainly motivational...so that is what I am posting for you tonight! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Good night dear friends!

Have you asked yourself, "Am I loved? Am I beautiful? Am I divine?"
Last week I spoke to one of my favorite groups — Alpha Delta Kappa. ADK is an international honorary organization for women educators. They have chapters in all 50 states plus Puerto Rico, Australia, Canada, Jamaica and Mexico.
I’ve addressed their local chapters, state and regional events and now their international convention in Washington, D.C. This is an inspiring group of women that does a lifetime of good each day before I’ve polished off my first bowl of Lucky Charms.
I agreed in principle to this latest speaking gig — giving the keynote at their international convention — one year ago. I signed a contract and began putting together rough notes and ideas 11 months back. Six months ago, I got more serious and started sorting through stories to share and possible object lessons. With a week to go, I finalized my plans for the 45-minute presentation.
Then, in the car on the way to the venue, everything changed.
I was sitting in the backseat with my headphones on and my laptop open as my wife and oldest daughter rode up front and chatted and giggled about mother-daughter things. I enjoyed the final chance to review my plan for the evening and an unusual object lesson I was excited to unveil for the first time in front of the crowd of more than 1,500 teachers.
As we cruised from Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley into the nation’s capital, my mind’s eye saw a sad woman sitting in the audience with three haunting questions that would not go away:
“Am I loved? Am I beautiful? Am I divine?”
I shook my head and tried to rattle the nameless face out like a stubborn pebble in a tennis shoe. "That’s not my message," I thought. "My program is about following dreams. It’s about finding your niche and relying on others to make your passion a reality."
Moments later I again heard the silent worry, the kind that follows us like shadows that will not go to bed with the sun.
“Am I loved? Am I beautiful? Am I divine?”
Virginia’s lush green hills rolled by, but the questions did not fade over my shoulder.
I’m not ashamed to admit in time, tears gathered in my eyes as I considered that someone — a teacher, mother, wife, sister — might be hiding in the audience that day with those three questions burning a bridge between their hearts and minds.
I scrolled back through my presentation with fresh vision. By the time I was done with the virtual red pen, I’d slice and diced half of my material and completely reworked the ending. I asked myself, "If there is even just one woman waiting for me in the audience who feels this way, don’t I owe it to her to answer these questions?"
Two hours later, I launched my presentation with the admission that something had happened to me — that I felt the need to deviate from months of preparation to share a message that might only apply to a handful in the room. Or, perhaps, it might apply to just one.
Are you loved?
“You are!” I nearly shouted. There are people everywhere who care for you, who believe in you and rely on you. They may not say it often enough, but they do love you.
Are you beautiful?
“You are!” You’re a creation of a loving Heavenly Father. No matter what magazines or blogs tell you, they do not own a copyright on the definition of beauty. Beauty is about the contents of the package, not the wrapping. You deserve to know this and to never forget it.
Are you divine?
“Of course you are!” Like all of us, you were created in his image. If God painted a canvas, it would be divine. If he sculpted a piece of art, it would be divine. If he created a woman, she would be divine! God has eternal and divine consequence, so wouldn’t his children?
After posing and answering these fundamental questions, with a lump in my throat, I stated the obvious. “Some in this room feel broken. Marriages have ended in pain, spouses and children have died, sickness has hit, jobs have been lost and homes have been taken.”
Do those facts change how much heaven loves us? Jesus Christ suffered all pain so ours could be healed. Whether physical, emotional or spiritual, there is healing available to us if we’ll simply knock.
Surely some in the audience then, and some reading this column now, wonder, “Can I overcome this? Am I capable enough? Am I talented enough?”
To them I exclaimed, “Yes, you are!” And to you I say the same.
You cannot do it alone; you’ll certainly need some help. It may come from friends, family, professionals, neighbors or strangers. You might see your angels, you might not. But they are waiting to assist you through life's trials, and more importantly, so is the one who sent the trials in the first place.
“Am I loved? Am I beautiful? Am I divine?”
Yes, you are! Now go tell a friend they are, too.

Teach the children!

I believe that it is vital that every child, be taught to believe in themselves and in their true worth. When they understand and know that, nothing in the world can hurt them!

Finally started to use some of my Motherhood skills again today!

It seems like lately I haven’t been doing as much of my basic household chores and projects. We did start last week putting in new flooring. Which of course meant we had to rip up the baseboards that were connected to the kitchen. The in order to get the kitchen floor finished we had to rip up the carpet, so we could do the landing area too with the new flooring and well…I am sure that all of you realize what I mean, when I say things have been a bit crazy around here and very un-organized. I really would turn myself in IF there was a place I could go to get help with my clutter issues. I mean it!
I can be organized for a small period of time but then…bam..it hits me again!

So by noon my crock pots were full of soup, then I kept trying to clean. I was a bit ashamed on how dirty I really let it get! So I truly felt like I was nesting today…no I am not pregnant! But I am going to be a NANA again in March, so maybe that is why I am nesting?   Smile

Well, I also taught some of the young women from church today and we had a great time. We talked about our self esteem and self worth. I read to the girls the book…YOU ARE SPECIAL by Max Lucado

For all of you who haven’t read it, you should. You would love it and your kids would love it!

It is a great book to remind us of our self Worth and not to take with too much credit… with what the world thinks you should be. It truly is a great book and reminder to us all. Check it out some time, and you will be surprised that the message of the book is good for young and old!

Good night dear friends!

The invincible YOU!

I tend to forget my worth some days. I struggle with negative thoughts about myself. I don't do it as often as I used to but, there are those days. I found this poem and thought...this is one of those things that you copy and put on your mirror or fridge. Every now and then, we all need to remember how INVINCIBLE we really are! When we truly realize that, life gets so much better!
Thanks for being such invincible family and friends!

Nothing to Fear

There's nothing to fear --- you're as good as the best,
As strong as the mightiest, too.
You can win in every battle or test;
For there's no one just like you.
There's only one you in the world today;
So nobody else, you see,
Can do your work in as fine a way:
You're the only you there'll be !

So face the world, and all life is yours
To conquer and love and live:
And you'll find the happiness that endures
In just the measure you give;
There's nothing too good for you to possess,
Nor heights where you cannot go:
Your power is more than belief or guess ---
It is something you have to know.

There is nothing to fear --- you can and you will.
For you are the invincible you.
Set your foot on the highest hill ---
There's nothing you cannot do.

Food for thought!

I loved this article that I read the other day. It is about honesty and integrity, huge virtues that we shouldn't take for granted. It made me want to take a self evaluation test afterwards, to see if there are any GRAY areas in my life? There really shouldn't be. Hope you enjoy it!

One Bite At A Time
When with your friends, you often hear yourself saying stuff like, "Of course I care about my health!  I take good care of myself!" Yet alone, in the middle of temptation, you convince yourself that just one more bacon-double-cheeseburger (with fries) won't hurt. After all, it's not like you do it EVERY day!

You are diligent in telling your eleven-year-old daughter not to ever tell lies... not ever.  The phone rings...she answers.  It's ANOTHER telemarketer.  "Tell them I'm not here!" you silently mouth from the other room.
"It's only twenty minutes!" you convincingly encourage yourself as you round your time sheet up to the next even hour.  After all,  why do they make you fill these silly things out, anyway?

Ever find yourself in a similar scenario?  You know... where your actions and your words don't exactly jive?  Where you tell yourself, your family, your friends or your boss one thing, but inside you know something different?  Ever?

Have you ever heard the term "congruence?"  It's been a big deal in management training circles for some time now.  Indeed, it is a very important idea.  Defined by Webster, it means, "an exact coinciding."  To use a (very) worn out phrase, it means, "walking your talk".  My definition?  Do what you say... say what you do.

Out of the gray...

There's no gray here.  It's actually quite a simple concept. And you know what?  Such virtue paves the difference between excellence and something much less in every one of your relationships.  With your employer, customers, co-workers, friends, children, significant other, and even... with yourself. Such uprightness creates the quantity of respect you're given, and in reality, the quantity of respect you deserve.
On a very personal level, it's called... integrity.
You've most likely heard the phrase, "Your actions are shouting so loudly, I can't hear a word you're saying!"  You can probably think of someone to whom this phrase fits... perfectly.  But, have you ever considered how it might apply to you?  Sure, most of us are pretty honest when it comes to the big stuff.  We don't steal.  We don't blatantly lie.  We don't cheat our friends. But what about those "little" things?  It's been said that the way to eat an elephant is... one bite at a time!
Have you ever stopped to ponder how those small "untruths," or "oversights," or lack of follow-through, or "do as I say, not as I do," pieces of your life might be eating away at you?  Such  "chinks" in your existence - over time - wear you down.  The 'one bite at a time' concept is fundamental.  Consider the slow rusting away of metal, mountains carried over time by rivers to the sea, or erosion of the once sandy shore with each crash of ocean wave. So too, are you diminished each time you engage in any  lack of integrity - however slight.  You lose the respect of others.  You  lose respect for yourself.
Think about it.  The erosion is easy to stop.  All you need do is be honest... really honest.  Immerse yourself in integrity - total, one-hundred-percent-no-holds-barred integrity.  Stand tall.  Do what you say... say what you do.  It's simple.  It's powerful.  Those near to you will love you for it.  The rest will respect you for it. And you?  You will have a much higher opinion of... you.

We are all the same!

When the kids were little, they loved the Shel Silverstein books that we read to them. The illustrations were a bit funky, but still they liked them. Tonight I will share one of the poems he wrote that I really like. It  reminds us of our worth, and no matter what we look like or our financial situation is...we are all the same worth and value to God! What a great reminder!

P.S.  I almost forgot, my granddaughter is doing much better, and so thanks to all of you for your prayers and calls. We will get the results of all the tests tonight or tomorrow hopefully. Gee, it is hard to watch these little ones be sick! Good night!

No difference

Small as a peanut,
Big as a giant,
We're all the same size
When we turn off the light.
Rich as a sultan,
Poor as a mite,
We're all worth the same
When we turn off the light.
Red, black or orange,
Yellow or white,
We all look the same
When we turn off the light.
So maybe the way
To make everything right
Is for God to just reach out
And turn off the light!

Mothers and Teachers

It's almost Mother's Day, and I have been thinking what some of the most important things that I have learned since being a Mother. I found this sweet story about a teacher... and in many ways, I believe a Mother's role in a child's life should be a lot the same.

I had a great feeling of relief when I began to understand that a youngster needs more than just subject matter. I know mathematics well, and I teach it well. I used to think that was all I needed to do. Now I teach children, not math. I accept the fact that I can only succeed partially with some of them. When I don't  have to know all the answers, I seem to have more answers than when I tried to be the expert. The youngster who really made me understand this was Eddie. I asked him one day why he thought he was doing so much better than last year. He gave meaning to my whole new orientation. "It's because I like myself now when I'm with  you." he said. ( A teacher quoted by Everett Shostrom in Man, The Manipulator)

Don't you agree, when we help our children or any children truly understand their self worth, their whole world seems to light up?  So to all you new moms out there, remember to teach your children of their true value and worth. Knowing that they are a child of God, of infinite potential... will be one of the greatest gifts you can ever give them. We should also check and see if our children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and little friends, seem to like themselves better when they are with us? If the answer is YES, then we are doing our job

Good night dear friends and thanks for making me feel better about myself, when I am with you!

Time changes things

Someone sent me this article of about a woman's lifeline. I am always interested in how women view themselves.  The world is tough on women. What is shown on TV and every bill board and magazine is hard to compare to. For one it's not real... but I hate even more the pressure that it puts on our young women ( actually all women) to be something that they aren't. This article reminded me that with age comes wisdom. I hope by reading it, that we will all remember our true worth and value!

A WOMAN'S LIFELINE

AGE 3: She looks at herself and sees a queen.

AGE 8: She looks at herself and sees Cinderella.

AGE 15: She looks at herself and sees in ugly duckling ( Mom, I can't go to school looking like this today! )

AGE 20: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly" but decides she's going out anyway.

AGE 30: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly" but decides she doesn't have time to fix it so she's going out anyway.

AGE 40: She looks at herself and sees "too fat/too thin, too short/too tall, too straight/too curly" but says, "At least I am clean," and goes out anyway.

AGE 50: She looks at herself and says, "I am what I am," and goes wherever she wants to go.

AGE 60: She looks at herself and reminds herself of all people who can't even see themselves in the mirror anymore. Goes out and conquers the world.

AGE 70: She looks at  herself and sees wisdom, laughter, and ability and goes out and enjoys life.

AGE 80: Doesn't bother to look. Just puts on a purple hat and goes out to have fun with the world.

The moral is, maybe we should all grab that purple hat a little earlier.

Our infinite worth!

I have always loved this story of the old violin and how it reminds us of our infinite worth. Lauren at school sent this photo that she took yesterday and I knew this was the perfect story to put with it. Thank you to the lovely musician that shared her talent. I hope after reading this story that each of us will remember to hold our head up a little higher and be proud of who we are!

The Touch of the Master's Hand

"Twas battered and scared, and the auctioneer
Thought it scarcely worth his while
To waste much time on the old violin,
But he held it up with a smile.
"What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,
"Who'll start bidding for me?
A dollar, a dollar - now who"ll make it two _
Two dollars, and who"ll make it three?

"Three dollars once, three dollars twice,
Going for three". . . but no!
From the room far back a gray-haired man
Came forward and picked up the bow;
Then wiping the dust from the old violin,
And tightening up the strings,
He played a melody, pure and sweet,
As sweet as an angel sings.

The music ceased and the auctioneer
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said: "What am I bidden for the old violin?"
And he held it up with the bow;
"A thousand dollars - and who'll make it two?
Two thousand - and who'll make it three?
Three thousand once, three thousand twice
And going - and gone," said he.

The people cheered, but some of them cried,
"We do not quite understand -
What changed its worth?" The man replied:
"The touch of the masters hand."
And many a man with life out of tune,
And battered and torn with sin,
Is auctioned cheap to a thoughtless crowd.
Much like the old violin.

A "mess of pottage," a glass of wine,
A game and he travels on,
He's going once, and going twice -
He's going - and almost gone!
But the MASTER comes, and the foolish crowd,
Never can quite understand,
The worth of a soul, and the change that's wrought
By the touch of the MASTER'S hand.

there is only one you

I was reading an article the other day, and a certain part of the article stood out to me. Probably because I struggle with my self worth, time to time. I forget that it is important not to let the everyday challenges and  problems get me down. I forget at times that I cannot help others until I help myself. I am in a REFILL mode. I am trying to refill the bucket of which I serve and give from. I need to take time out to help myself heal and build up my hope and courage. It seems that my bucket has been a bit empty lately. I will leave with you a small part of this article and some quotes. Good night dear friends and hopefully you too will remember to never let anything put out the incredible light that is in you, and from time to time to... REFILL YOUR BUCKET!

"Always remember the outside of a person doesn't usually tell the whole story.

People are like stained glass windows.  They glow and sparkle when it's sunny and bright, but when the sun goes down their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.

No woman was ever quite like you.  The Lord made only one, without carbons.  You are not repeated and not repeatable.  No one else can do what the Lord sent you to do.  The value of what you have to contribute will come through the expression of your own personality, that particular spark of the divine that make you unique, setting you off from every other living creature.  The mark you leave on the world, on the hearts and minds of others is as distinct as your thumb print.  ~  Barbara B. Inspiring!

Tonight for Family Home Evening, Brad and Krystal had the lesson. It was a short film that was produced for a film festival and the main character was Nick Vujicic . I had seen a clip about him on Youtube awhile ago. Nick was born without arms or legs and yet his spirit is inspiring and unbelievable. It was about 25 minutes long, but something that everyone should see and FEEL!  The story is about a circus, but not just any circus, one that not only entertaining but inspiring! I am always amazed at the Human Spirit! It makes me want to try harder to live my life to the fullest and never sell myself short. Good night dear friends and really try to watch this movie, it will touch your heart forever!

Here is the link...

This film reminded me of the parable in Luke 15 where it talks about the lost sheep and how vital each soul is. A good reminder that no matter what happens to your life, that it is of great worth to God and others!

Cheaters never win

Many kids who are abused, do whatever it takes to survive. For some of them it is to excel in school...something they can control. Others it is to over achieve in sports... something to get out their aggression and so the list goes on and on. Mine however was ART, my art took me to a different place, a safe place, a place that only I created, I was doing art since I was a little girl. My abuse started young, I don't remember (thank goodness) anything much younger than 4 or 5.

One thing I do remember was how much schooling I missed, oh I was there.. but not really there, if you know what I mean?  I would just sit at my desk and doodle, my thoughts were far from the math or geography lessons that were being taught. Because the abuse went on for years, I really didn't do well in school.  Actually it was so bad that I cheated to just try and get by. I was warned that if I told anyone...then that would get seriously hurt. I did try to tell at the age of 5,  but was scolded and not believed, that silenced me for many years. I did not want to fail my classes because that would bring attention to me and my situation and that scared me. I wasn't to tell anyone no matter what  and so....I cheated.

I remember well in Elementary we had Spanish taught to us. I was terrified, just trying to keep up with the regular curriculum was tough enough, without adding a foreign language too!  During one test, I got so nervous about trying to label the parts of a face in Spanish that I begged my girlfriend to help me, reluctantly she did. That was bad enough, but then I realized I didn't even know how to spell some of the words she told me. Not a smart thing to do, neither was cheating but I think I just took it a whole new level? Long story short...I got caught and I had to tell the teacher, I also told her it was all my fault so my girlfriend wouldn't get in as much trouble. I don't think I ever regained her friendship. That alone made me feel bad. How I wish I could have told her why I was having so much trouble in school, with all my classes not just Spanish. I wish that she could have understood but....that would have put her in jeopardy. ( or so I thought! )

And so that is basically how most of my schooling went, oh I learned some along the way, but as a teenager the abuse was still happening and so I  had a lot bigger problems to worry about. I look back on those years as something I hope never to repeat, and yet tonight I had to remind myself, and all those other survivors of abuse ...that Cheaters never win and I am not talking about me.  I am talking about those abusers (cheaters) who pretend to be dear family members, teachers, and or friends. They will not get by without having to be responsible for their actions.... they will some day have to accept and pay for the consequences of their actions.

Not to end on a negative note but a happy one. I believe the greatest thing we can do to combat abuse is... to do all that we can to get healthy ourselves. To love ourselves. To not cheat ourselves out of a life! To tell, to report and most important to protect those around us that might fall into the cheaters sick web. Yes abuse is bad, it is wrong... but I do think that we all have in us... what it takes to conquer whatever life gives us. We will be the better and the stronger for it, if we learn from it and go on and LIVE!

I pray that ANY OF YOU that are in an abusive situation whether sexually, physically or emotionally, that you will honor the feeling in the pit of your stomach that is telling you this is wrong and do all that you can to get out of it!  I pray you will tell someone, that you will seek help. No one deserves to be abused!  Be strong, be able to find someone to talk to and most important to BELIEVE you. You are worth it!

May you find the strength and courage that you need! Don't give up! Life truly is worth living! I know ...because I am finally living it!
