Road trip!

Yesterday was our last day together before Jeff had to leave. We decided to go to Fredricksburg today
. It is a little German town about an hour away. There was a storm front that came through and so we all had to bundle up, there was a ton of ice, you can even see it on the cars. It was fun but there were a ton of stores closed because of the cold and ice. As we were walking around it was freezing...in the low 20's. So glad we brought our coats! Still had to borrow scarves and gloves!
Texas Mistletoe...too funny!
They have been here a couple of times before, so they knew a couple of shops that they wanted to take us to. The fudge and candy shop was one of them. They had quite the selection and even some old fashion candy that I remember from my childhood. Then they had some really unique candy like below... chocolate covered bacon, peppers and pickles. Krystal said even though she is pregnant, non of that sounded good to her!

Lunch was wonderful and Jeff got to have his favorite  Rueben sandwich! He said it was great! Then we went to a general store where they had tons of sauces, jellies, butters and almost everything you could have wanted to sample. That was fun. I loved the plaque that they had hanging up about 5 Deadly Terms used by Women. I have to say... most of it was true! :) At least Jeff thought so! We found a fun toy store where Kai and Seth got to practice all their musical skills!

Then Brad and I headed to the airport to drop off Jeff. So glad we got to have at least 5 days together. But I have to admit...I miss him already! I will be home next Saturday. Need to have some more time with by Kai boy! And Krystal and I even have a coupe of Quilt Shops we are going to check out. We wish we knew what the baby is going to be so we could start shopping now, but we only have 2 more weeks till we find out! Can't wait!

Just a quick bite!

Today I went back to the Doctor. It was a month recheck and she wanted to see how I am doing. I had to be honest with her, I am still struggling. After doing almost anything, I am pretty wiped out. After going to church on Sundays, I can pretty much expect to have to stay down and low on Monday and Tuesday. I told her that when I am that tired that my throat still hurts and I am just fatigued to the point that I just have to lay down. Although I tried to remind her that I have been better these last 3 weeks than the last 5 months but...I am still quite far from FEELING GOOD.
I am trying to count my blessings at the same time, being aware of how my body is doing or not doing. She did a throat culture because of how red mine was, my nose was irritated from allergies, my ears are hurting  and I have a constant headache. I totally thought it was because of my glasses but after having them adjusted a couple of times, the headaches were still there. She said I hate to tell you " it's not your glasses, it's your sinuses and the allergies that are hurting your head so bad".
So I got a few more things to help with my sinuses and came home and sewed for the next few hours.

Today my daughter-in-law Krystal and our grandson Kai were flying in to go to her brother's Graduation. Her family lives in Yakama and they just usually pick them up from the airport and head back home, because they still have a 3 hour drive to her home. I called Krystal and asked if there might be any way that we could just come by the airport or meet for lunch somewhere close for just a quick bite...so we could see them for just a moment. We haven't seen them since Christmas, and this Nana and Poppa are having Kai withdrawals. I knew it was a lot to ask of her Dad and family, but we kept our fingers crossed. They called and said that would be fine. So I took off drove to Jeff's work and picked him up, and we headed to the Bahama Breeze( a great restaurant near the airport).
So for one hour, we got to see and eat with our Kai boy. Man do I miss this kid! He is just a such a happy boy and a great little eater. It did our grandparent's heart good to be with him ( if only for an hour ). Thanks Jeff and Tracy for sharing this little guy with us!

How grateful I am for family, and how much we love being Grandparents. We are very blessed.
Good night dear friends!

I love this quote...except mine needs to say " he calls me Nana."
Such a sweet gift from Grandson(s). Customize the name "Grandma" for any other name she might be called..."Nana", "Grams", etc. 11x14 "So there are these boys...they call me Grandma" by Houseof3,

A child's world

I started feeling better on Tuesday, and that was good because I needed to pick up Amy, John and girls from the airport on Tuesday night. My daughter Amy has been really sick and so I came home with them to take care of the girls for the last two days. She got sick on her trip and is pretty weak. .

It was sweet to hear them how much they missed Jeff and I. So today we tried to let their Mom sleep and we declared it a Pajama Day, we played and played and then up packed all their bags and did all their laundry. The girls were a very big help today, we seemed to have fun as long as we did it together. Then after we made dinner, we watched a movie and crocheted. It was a fun day.
I feel blessed to have been in their world for the last couple of days. They make my life so simple and happy. Only wish my little boy in Texas could be here with us too.
Good night dear friends!
Don't ask him to live in your world....visit his world instead.

Another good Samaritan... strikes again!

What a great story! Radom Acts of Kindness...I love it!

Good Samaritan note goes viral on Reddi

Andy had been traveling and was asked to pay the mandatory baggage fee. After handing the employee his credit card, Andy was told his card had been declined. Embarrassed and upset, Andy stepped away from the counter to call his bank and double-check his balance.
Upon returning to check out, the man found a note left for him on the back of a receipt. The note read:
"Hey, I heard them say your card was declined. I know how it feels. Your bag fee's on me. Just pay it forward the next time you get a chance. Have a safe flight. :)"

Andy was overwhelmed by the kind act and decided to post the photo to thank the anonymous giver.
"If you're reading this, thanks for making my day," Andy posted online.
But according to Andy, the financial help wasn't even the best part of the surprise note.
"Seriously, reading their note gave me goosebumps and gave me faith that there are still good people out there," Andy told Yahoo Shine.
Many commenters have asked Andy what he will do to pay it forward to someone else. Andy said he hoped to come up with something spontaneously, just as it happened to him.
Many other users on the popular site left comments sharing their own "good Samaritan" moments.
"I was walking down a busy avenue in my city one day and saw a meter maid beginning to write a ticket for a car parked by the road. Obviously the meter was expired. As I witnessed this and approached to pass this event, I reached into my pocket and found some change, I passed between the meter and the maid, casually dropping a quarter into the machine, giving the person a few more minutes of time," one user commented.
"The meter maid was dumbfounded and my group and I paused down the street a bit to see her on her radio requesting advice on what to do. She ended up moving along and not writing the ticket."
Another user described an experience he had when he overheard a young mother describing a problem with her car to a mechanic.
"I heard her ask the counter guy if he could see why her lights were dim on the car. He went and tested and found the battery was dead, but the alternator was charging. I overheard her talking with the guy about batteries, and when she saw the prices, she kept asking if he had anything cheaper/smaller that would work," the user wrote.
"As she was leaving without a battery, I walked over to the guy and asked which one she needed for her car. He pointed. I handed him my card and rang it up. I grabbed the battery and borrowed some tools and walked out the front door just as she had finished buckling the kids in. I asked her to pop her hood, and she at first looked at me like 'What?' and then saw what I had with me.
"She asked me why, and I just said, 'Because someone did something nice for me once.'"
A few weeks ago the Deseret News reported on a similar act of generosity. In Massachusetts, a doughnut store celebrated a 55-person pay-it-forward chain after one customer first decided to pay for the customer behind her in the drive-through.

Acts of service can have far-reaching effects!

I had read this story years ago, and it always has touched me. Maybe because I was a Mother myself many times in situations where I wish I could have explained my actions. Yet, I too have fallen guilty of judging too quickly…well knowing that we don’t know the whole picture. Making a quick judgment is so easy, but like this story…things may not always be what they seem.

I hope you enjoy it.
Good night dear friends!

Serving Others

Stranded in an airport because of bad weather, a young mother and her two-year-old daughter had been waiting in long lines for hours trying to get a flight home. The child was tired and fussy, but the mother, who was pregnant and at risk of miscarriage, did not pick her up. A doctor had advised the mother to avoid lifting the two-year-old unless absolutely necessary. The woman overheard disapproving comments from people around her as she used her foot to slide her crying daughter along in the line. Nobody offered to help. But then, the woman later recalled, “someone came towards us and with a kindly smile said, ‘Is there something I could do to help you?’ With a grateful sigh I accepted his offer. He lifted my sobbing little daughter from the cold floor and lovingly held her to him while he patted her gently on the back. He asked if she could chew a piece of gum. When she was settled down, he carried her with him and said something kindly to the others in the line ahead of me, about how I needed their help. They seemed to agree and then he went up to the ticket counter [at the front of the line] and made arrangements with the clerk for me to be put on a flight leaving shortly. He walked with us to a bench, where we chatted a moment, until he was assured that I would be fine. He went on his way. About a week later I saw a picture of Apostle Spencer W. Kimball and recognized him as the stranger in the airport.”

Later at the end of the story Spencer W. Kimball got a letter from a young man. Here is just a part of his letter to him…

… a story was told of a loving service which you performed some 21 years ago in the Chicago airport. The story told of how you met a young pregnant mother with a young screaming child in … a [condition of] distress waiting in a long line for her tickets. She was threatening miscarriage and therefore couldn’t lift her child to comfort her. She had experienced four previous miscarriages which gave added reason for the doctor’s orders not to bend or lift.
“… You comforted the crying child, and explained the dilemma to the other passengers in line. This act of love took the strain and tension off of my mother. I was born a few months later in Flint, Michigan.
“I just want to thank you for your love. Thank you for your example!”
