Adopt a Grandparent Day!

Today I had the opportunity to be an Adopted Grandmother for a sweet young friend of mine!

What a treat it was to be there and to spend that special day with him!

It was fun to see his picture he made of himself ...this is what he thought he would look like when he is 100 years old  ( I think he looks pretty good for being that old ! )
It had 3 questions that they asked the kids about being 100 years old.
This is what he said...
When I am 100 years old:
I will PLAY ALL DAY LONG!
I will EAT EVERYTHING!
I will NOT CLIMB A MOUNTAIN!
After having lunch together, we went outside in the beautiful sunshine and they got to have recess. He and his best friend, never left each other's side!

Thanks Suchen for a fun filled day!

So grateful that I got to stand in for at least one day... for the Champions in this sweet boy's life!

I see Sunshine in your future!

Since we had the dryest July ever here in Seattle this year, you can imagine that some of us are sorta hoping for some rain. For those who are suffering from the fires, they are praying for the rain. it is all in the perspective isn't it?
I do know that we have a few friends who are going through so really tough times, I only hope that their prayers answered soon and that they can can hold on till times get better.
Good Night dear friends!

This the life Nana!

Yesterday Jenny and I woke up a bit late and then read some books in bed.

It was so fun, it was the same books that I read to my kids when they were little. They are called the Bugg books by Stephen Cosgrove, I just love them. After we read a few, then we got up for breakfast and during breakfast we decided to Face Time with Kai. When Jenny told him about the books we were reading, he asked if we could read a couple to him...and because of modern technology...I got to read books to my grandson all the way in Texas. Pretty cool!
Then the rest of the day, Jenny helped me clean up some and do some chores. She is trying to earn money for the 1/2 of her American Doll before her Birthday in August.
Later we cut and hemmed some old jeans into shorts. While I was doing that Jenny was going through the scraps on the floor and decided she would like to create a bracelet from the left over jeans. She was so particular about exactly what she thought it should look like. It was fun to see her little creative mind going a mile a minute!
We at dinner and then went to Costco to pick up a cute things.
Before we left, Jenny said to Jeff " Poppa, you better be my body guard at the store, when all the kids see my bracelet, they are going to start following me and want it. You had better stay with me."  Jeff and I were laughing so hard. She is such a fun and crazy little girl!
Today I taught Day 4 of my Birthday Club, it went really well, we had a great turn out.
After I got off work, Angie came home to have a 1 day Sleep Over with us. She had a volleyball game this morning and couldn't come till after that.
So since it was soooo pretty outside, we decided to have some fun in the sun.
Jeff and the girls had a water fight!
I got some personal fans, and squirt bottles on sale today.
Funny, we had a tiny pool, and just weeds in our back yard and yet...you would think that they had the world!

It must have been ok, because the
as they were laying in the pool they said " This is the life Nana!"
Since Monday is Angie's Birthday and she wanted to go to the beach for dinner but Monday is suppose to raining, so we did it tonight since it was sooo beautiful!
A quick look on the beach for some shells, then home for Movie and Popcorn! It was a great day!

Date Night!

Today I had some wonderful friends over for lunch, and then they were kind enough to help me out with a project I was doing. Then I went to work for an hour and just played with the fabric and some new ideas. Next I had dinner with the most handsome man I have ever met, we went to a Sushi bar!
Yes, you guessed it ...it's Date Night!
Plus, did I mention it was a beautiful Sunny Spring Day?
I tell you, it doesn't get much better than this!
Good night dear friends!

Good night dear friends!

Get Out for Earth Day

Celebrate the earth with your own personalized sun salutation. These fun activities make the most of the great outdoors.
Get Out for Earth Day
April is a month of environmental celebrations. Earth Day is on the 22nd, and Arbor Day is celebrated on the 26th. So instead of just exercising outside, why not make the great outdoors part of your fitness routine?

"Environmental fitness is an exercise trend that's only going to get bigger," says Suzanne Nottingham, a spokesperson for the American Council for Exercise. The results feel as good as fresh air. Plus, you still get all the benefits of being outside.

"There's nothing like getting outside of concrete walls for stress reduction," says Nottingham. "You're not in a controlled, sterile environment, and outdoor workouts combine everything: cardio, strength-training, balance, and flexibility. Plus, 'outside' has no set hours, and no fee. You pick your own time and go."

Ready to make your workout green? Here are some easy ways to do it:

Head for the hills
See a hill when you're walking or running? Go for it. "Bumping up your workout routine improves your overall fitness level, and you'll see more results," says Nottingham.

Use rocks for weights
Do sets of bicep curls, shoulder presses, even back strengthening exercises. "Keep challenging yourself," warns Nottingham, "when exercise feels too comfortable, it's time to use bigger rocks."

Find environmental equipment
Use a park bench or a low tree branch for triceps dips. Or make a curb your substitute gym step with sets of step-ups.

Be a tree hugger
Arbor Day is all about trees, so to celebrate, why not head to the park and find a few trees in a row? Then weave your way between them by walking, jogging or running, just like you would in an obstacle course. "A great exercise in agility, balance, and coordination," says Nottingham.

Give the car the day off
Consider walking to work. If your commute is too long, you might try biking, in-line skating, or jogging. Whatever method you choose, you can't go wrong. They're all great cardio workouts, and help reduce blood pressure, improve circulation, mobility, and, of course, burn calories.

Go green and clean
Looking for ways to take care of the environment and get active? Go to your local park and pick up litter. Incorporate a squat each time you bend down to pick up a piece of trash. At home, lunge your way back and forth from your recycling cans.

Creating all day!

“Forever – is composed of Nows.” – Emily Dickinson – On Southwest image by Florence McGinn -- Explore tips and quotes on writing inspiration at http://www.examiner.com/article/writing-inspiration-from-water-and-nature-tips-and-quotes Today the girls and I made Easter Purses, and then while they played outside, Amy and I sewed the top for Audrey's quilt. I love the fabric that Amy picked...it is really beautiful and that was before even started cutting and designing it! I can't wait to hold that little Audrey some day. Wonder if she will have RED hair to? :)
It was fun to have the sunshine out all day and knowing that Spring is right around the corner!

Since we had the girls tonight, so that their Mom and Dad could have a Date Night, we decided to head to Port Townsend tomorrow and do a Date Day! I can't wait, I feel blessed to have this time to be with Jeff!
Hope you had a wonderful day! Good night dear friends

Another stay home, stay low day!

Well, my back actually felt better today, maybe it is because I didn't do anything...once again? When I was at the Doctor the other day and told him that I still have to lay down at least once a day, his reply was "Lynn, maybe that is just going to be your new NORMAL?" Maybe he is right but it is hard to spend so much of my day in bed. There are sooooooooooooo many things I would like to be doing instead. But I need to count my blessings and one of them today was SUNSHINE, yes... we actually saw the sun today! So today was slow, simple, but good. I will close with this story that reminded me once again no matter what my days are like... to NEVER GIVE UP!

Never Give Up

Sir Winston Churchill took three years getting through eighth grade because he had trouble learning English. It seems ironic that years later Oxford University asked him to address its commencement exercises.

He arrived with his usual props. A cigar, a cane and a top hat accompanied Churchill wherever he went. As Churchill approached the podium, the crowd rose in appreciative applause. With unmatched dignity, he settled the crowd and stood confident before his admirers. Removing the cigar and carefully placing the top hat on the podium, Churchill gazed at his waiting audience. Authority rang in Churchill's voice as he shouted, "Never give up!"

Several seconds passed before he rose to his toes and repeated: "Never give up!" His words thundered in their ears. There was a deafening silence as Churchill reached for his hat and cigar, steadied himself with his cane and left the platform. His commencement address was finished.

I love Sunshine!

Today was one of the most beautiful sunny days ever. What a treat it was to feel the warmth of the sun on my face. My granddaughter Angie and I grabbed a  blanket and headed outside. We found bugs, looked at the clouds, listened to the birds and made a whole lot of special wishes, while blowing on wishers. ( dandelions ) I was grateful for the weather, my family and to be healthy enough to enjoy all of it today. Tonight as I was looking up a quote or something about Sunshine, I found this blog http://bcchfdrm.wordpress.com/ it is a blog of a cancer survivor named Paige. It is her story about cancer and how it has effected her life. I was so impressed at such a young age how wise she was. I don't know anything about her current condition, I couldn't find that ...but I will leave with you tonight her sweet spirit that comes shining through in her words. She was an inspiration to me tonight and I thought I would just pass that along!

Paige: Christmas Wish for a World Without Cancer

December 15, 2009

Paige018My fight with childhood cancer has proven to be quite a journey so far.  With my present so dramatically changed, it also sent a ripple effect into my future.  There is a great deal of uncertainty I have to face, but don’t we all!  I just have a few extra cards stacked against me.  The game’s not over yet.

I have learned a lot in the past couple of years.  I have endured even more.  Though I have sustained some physical and emotional damage, I would like to think that in many ways I emerged as a stronger, more aware individual.  My plans for the future changed along with everything else.  I had different career goals in mind as well as personal goals I wanted to achieve.  I learned that cancer can touch any one of us at any time.  No one is immune, no one is exempt.  Cancer isn’t picky.

Through my journey with cancer, I learned to fight the fight, stay positive, never give up hope, and never lose faith.  I choose to see the beauty in everything, and see each day as a precious gift, never to be taken for granted.  Life can change in the blink of an eye.  I don’t want to miss a thing.  I want no regrets.

It is for these reasons that I made a promise to myself that I would do my part in the fight to find the cure.  I would continue to do my fundraising, raise awareness, and hopefully bring hope to families going through a similar ordeal.  I am hoping that my story will help enlighten others of what it is like for children struggling through a life threatening illness.  I wanted other children to know and take comfort in the knowledge that they are not alone.  It is my wish that my story will raise even a little awareness of the incredibly brave child warriors in our midst.

"While we try to teach our children all about life,
Our children teach us what life is all about."

~Angela Schwindt
