Good Night dear friends!

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood." ~ Fred Rogers

“If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will-to your surprise- miss them profoundly.” ~ Thomas S. Monson

I could have written this sweet story, about surviving Motherhood. But also when I read it, I thought how it applied to me as an Empty Nester now. Time goes by way too fast.
My advice after 30 years of full time Mothering….slow down and savor each MOMENT! They will be gone before you know it!
Good night dear friends.

The baby is teething-the children are fighting. My husband just called and said to eat dinner without him. Okay, one of these days you'll shout: "Why don't you grow up and act your age!" and they will, or "You guys get outside and find yourselves something to do...and don't slam the door!"...and they won't.
You'll straighten up their rooms neat and tidy...bumper stickers discarded...spreads tucked and smooth ... toys displayed on the shelves...hangars in the closet...animals caged, and you'll say out loud: "Now I want it to stay that way!" and it will...You'll prepare a perfect dinner with a salad that hasn't been picked to death and a cake with no finger traces in it and you'll say, "Now there's a meal for a company." and you'll eat it alone.
You'll say, "I want complete privacy on the phone. No dancing around, no pantomimes, no demolition crews. Silence! Do you hear?"...and you'll have it. No more plastic tablecloths stained with spaghetti, no more anxious nights under a vaporizer tent, no more dandelion bouquets, no more iron-on patches, knotted shoestrings, or tight moots.
Imagine, a lipstick with a point, no babysitter for New Year's Eve, washing clothes only once a week, no P.T.A. meetings, carpools, blaring radios, Christmas presents out of toothpicks and paste. No more "Wet Oatmeal Kisses". No more tooth fairy giggles in the dark, or knees to heal.
Only a voice crying..."Why don't you grow up?"... and the silence echoing ......."I did." http://www.rogerknapp.com/knap/inspire.htm

I remember as a little girl, that my one of my Mom's favorite songs from Fiddler on the Roof was Sunrise, Sunset.
She said it always made her cry, because that is how she felt as her children grew up. It seemed so fast to her.
I didn't exactly know what she meant at that time, but now I do.
I look at this photo of Brad and Krystal, and wonder how the time flew by so fast? Yes, this is my little Bradley, the boy that made us laugh and smile a lot. Now he is all grown up, married to a beautiful and smart girl and they are ready to take on the world. Wow, that time did seem to fly and just like my Mother said...I feel like crying! Needlesstosay that Mother's are always right! :)
Good night dear friends!

I found this article about your kids growing up so fast. As I read it, I thought how true. I remember the crazy days when all four of the kids were young, and life was hectic and never boring. I wondered many times, how in the world I would ever make it, would I truly survive? I did... and it seemed just like yesterday they were all little and now, our youngest is graduating from High School and Brad and Krystal from college in a month. How did that happen? Where did the time go? I miss those days...can you believe it? I really do, the house is too clean and too quiet and dinners are a bit boring sometimes.
I have heard there is a time and season for everything, that is true also. The trick is to enjoy the season that you are in and not wish it away or wish another season to take it's place.
Now we can't wait, for our granddaughters to come over and make a mess and some noise. Yes, it is different watching your kids grow up so fast.
So for all of you that still have little ones under your feet. Enjoy them, cherish that time, because they will grow up fast and you will really miss them!

This is the story of the real Santa Claus, St. Nicholas.
To this day people say that St. Nicholas, or Santa, is the special friend of children.
The real Santa lived a long time ago in a place called Asia Minor. It is now the country of Turkey. His name was Nicholas.
Nicholas' parents died when he was just a teenager. His parents left him a lot of money which made him a rich young man. He went to live with his uncle who was a priest.
Nicholas heard about a man who had lost all his money. He had three daughters who were old enough to get married. But in those days young women had to have money in order to get married. This money was a "dowry" and it was used to help the new family get started. If you didn't have dowry money, you didn't get married.
This family was so poor they had nothing left to eat. The daughters were going to be sold as slaves because they couldn't live at home any longer. They were very sad. They wouldn't be able to have families of their own. And they would have to be slaves—no longer able to decide where they would live or what they would do.
The night before the oldest daughter was to be sold, she washed her stockings and put them in front of the fire to dry. Then all of them went to sleep—the father and the three daughters.
In the morning the daughter saw something lumpy in her stocking. She reached in and found a small, heavy bag. Inside was gold! Enough to provide food for the family and money for her dowry. Oh, how happy they were!
The next morning, another bag with gold was found. Imagine! Two of the daughters would now be saved. Such joy!
And the next night, the father planned to stay awake to find out who was helping his daughters. He dozed off, but heard a small "clink" as another bag landed in the room. Quickly he jumped up and ran out the door. Who did he catch ducking around the corner?
Nicholas, the young man who lived with his uncle. "Nicholas, it is you! Thank you for helping us—I hardly know what to say!" Nicholas said, "Please, do not thank me—thank God that your prayers have been answered. Do not tell others about me."
Nicholas continued helping people. He always tried to help secretly. He didn't want any attention or thanks. Years passed and he was chosen to be a bishop. Bishops look after their people as shepherds look after their sheep. And that is what Nicholas did. When there wasn't any food, he found wheat; so no one went hungry. He always helped people in trouble. All his life Nicholas showed people how to love God and care for each other.
The people loved Nicholas. After he died, they told stories of the good and kind things Nicholas had done. Sailors took these stories about Nicholas everywhere they went. Some of the stories were about his special care for children—helping and protecting them when danger threatened. And so more and more people learned about good, kind Nicholas. They wanted to be like him. He is an example of how we should live. And that is why he became a saint.
"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy." ~ Francis Pharcellus Church
"Santa Claus is anyone who loves another and seeks to make them happy; who gives himself by thought or word or deed in every gift that he bestows" ~ Edwin Osgood Grover
I found this quote about children and how fast they grow. It made me think of it as I looked at this photo of our youngest son Lee turning 17, and having our 4 year old granddaughter Angie on his lap. How did that happen? For all you young moms out there, please take a deep breath and slow down, and try to savor every moment with your little ones, even if that means just snuggling and changing diapers. Time truly does fly! Trust me on this one!
You spend years trying to get them off the ground.
You run with them until you are both breathless. They crash ... they hit the roof ... you patch, comfort and assure them that someday they will fly.
Finally, they are airborne.
They need more string, and you keep letting it out.
They tug, and with each twist of the twine, there is sadness that goes with joy.
The kite becomes more distant, and you know it won't be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that binds you together and will soar as meant to soar ... free and alone.
Only then do you know that you have done your job.
